Horsemanship has been around for a number of years and seems to be the new fan-dangled way to train. There are extremes in all styles of training and I have learnt different styles and methods of Horsemanship over the years and have taken from this along with my bodywork learnings and cultivated my own way of working with horses. Although the fundaments are of pressure and release, I also work intuitively with the horse and often the human, to choose the best way forward.
The horse is always an individual and for which must be approached as such, this also applies for the human. My approach may vary from one horse and person to the next, but I will always honestly try to give what the horse needs rather than applying a specific 'method', agenda or timetable.
For me, Horsemanship is a way of working with the horse to develop calmness, trust and relaxation which enables an ideal base for both the horse and human to teach and learn from. For me, Horsemanship is having a two way relationship and communication with your horse. For me, Horsemanship is having a confident, soft and supple horse in both casual and collected work. For me, Horsemanship is having a solid partnership which means a balanced, straight, responsive, soft and calm horse AND human that can achieve and work in any chosen discipline together.
